There is not as much talk out there about the Arx. Yet. We can attest that they do not send out eval sets to just any reviewer. It was a privilege to hear and write about them. Let us know what you think of them. Hope you will be a very satisfied owner.
Its great to see Arx gaining so much attention and positive praise. I knew next to nothing about them when I first clicked on the TAI ad banner on AVS. Search results on the forums had zero results from any hits on Arx but thought I would just take a chance on the $249 Arx A1 (pre A1b model) and got hooked ever since. That was 2011 and fast forward to 2013 and everyone that hears a Arx model is very impressed and the opinions are very positive.

I can see why it took so long to get the results up - that was quite a lot of writing! Great to see measurements taken on all the speakers as well.
The amount of work that went into this is hard to fully comprehend for anyone who hasn't done something like it. I only provided some spelling/grammar checking and it took me a few hours for that alone. Writing it up was an order of magnitude longer. Awesome job guys. :T

I fully expected the Arx A5 to come out on the top, just as I did the Vandersteen 2Ce to finish high.

Great job to all the evaluators and to Jon Lane for all the hard work he put into the A5!

Great job at comparing the selected speakers! Thank you for taking the time to do the shootout and present the results to us in such detail.

So 1 for 2 eh? :D

I didn't fare much better; I thought the ML's would be first, then either the A5 or Focal :)huh:) second. Good thing I opted not to vote...

Thanks for the hard work and the great write up. The real winner here is the customer…as your review clearly shows, there are a number of really good choices for under $1k.

A year ago, when I began my own search for a new loudspeaker for a 2 channel setup, I really liked the sound produced by the folded motion/ribbon transducers in the Motions and Goldenears (very smooth and 3d)…so I’m not surprised that the Arx sound so good with their planar tweeters.

I ended up buying the Tekton Lores, probably because of their dynamics and low end. Your evaluation of the Lores at the 20 hour break in point is pretty similar to my own experience.

If you manage to get another pair of Lores for extended evaluation, I suspect you will find that with extended break in (I’m now around 220 hours), the mids, highs and soundstage keep getting smoother and more dimensional while the low end just keeps getting deeper.

When I looked at the arx I liked the towers but wanted a centre channel with more beef. If they would have offered a model with two 6.5 speakers in a bigger cab I might have bought them. They look really nice. Ended up with tekton oriels and donefind them bright.

Yeah... I really wish we had more time with the Lore's, but Eric just could not get them to us any sooner.

I am looking forward to the Pendragons being in my home theater system for a review... and being a part of our $2,500 two-channel speaker evaluation event.

Are you going with the pendragon centre ? If so be aware it takes at least 20 hours to sound good. First 20 hours it is really a confined sound. I was worried when I bought mine but several people online had same experience .
Already can't wait for next.shootout !

Congrats on choosing the ARX'z. Even though I have never heard them, I did see reviews posted on AVS on some reviews at the GTG's.

I did listen the Motion12's, and I should have never second guess since you owned ML's all ready that the motion12's would of been a great contender, however my guess was still wrong since I chose those Maggies :( . lol.

Yeah... we should have a full 5 channel Pendragon system for the review, not sure about subs. They will get at least 50 hours of break-in prior to testing or evaluation. They will also be hooked up to my Denon 4520 for the home theater portion of the review, so they will get Audyssey treatment as well.

I came this close >< to buying the A5, A2 center and A1 surrounds, but went another direction. Perhaps I'll still get the A5 for 2 channel, or wait for the next big thing from Arx, like maybe a line array? But the A5 is such a value, not sure I'd need more than that.

The Klipsch was a surprising contender. I like horns done well and it was nice to see them make good account of themselves.

Perhaps we can bug Jon about a larger A5 tower. I've brought it up in conversations with him on some other forums about a possible A7? tower using a MTM top with the planar and two A5 midranges and either triple 6.5" woofers or a pair of 8" woofers.

I brought up to him that the A5 is great at $749, I wonder what he could do with a $1200-1600 tower. :unbelievable:

Awesome job and thanks for the great write up. This is my first post over here, but I have been over at AVS and AH for awhile. Congrats on your new Arx speakers.

Would be great if you demo’d their new 18” subs with the entire system instead of the dual 12” subs

Well done.
Perhaps the best shoot out write up I have ever read.
I just wish I had guessed better so I had a chance at the $$.
Good luck to the 19 people that chose wisely.

Hi Sonnie

Do you have a list ranking the speakers from 1-8, with the Arx being in first place? I understand if you don't want to go there and just leave the listening impressions as is. Fantastic job BTW. I must have checked for the results at least 10 time Saturday. :hyper:

That sounds like a winner, Chad. I was one of those that bugged Jon about producing the A5, an A6 and/or A7 would be sweet (are you listening, Jon?)! I'm an SPL freak and like that extra 3-5 dB over what "normal" people listen to. It is actually hard to find good sounding speakers comfortable playing over 95 dB peak at the listening position, spreading the load over multiple drivers would help.

I haven't heard what the A5 can do (wanted to attend this shootout sooo bad, but couldn't take off work :hissyfit:). But I think a line array with multiple planars and and midbasses would be very interesting. :nerd:
