(i originally posted this on "dont dump your rptv thread on avs forum")

i have a problem with my toshiba rptv 43jh9um(dont look it up on google its nowhere on the internet its east asia specific)

well anyways the problem is, it has been with me for 5 years without any problem but recently this thing happened that when i switch it on it does produce that chinnnng sound when you open a TV and then after i think 2 secs it goes dooop just like when you stand-by your tv but the red light on the tv keeps on.... other thing is when it sometimes does get on after a while i get black flickers on the screen they grow and suddenly the tv goes on standby and does not open again...!!!! i called the people from service center and literally they were idiots....first they dint know how to open the t.v then they fried up the fuse ! then they said i have a problem in my main-board and the fee is huge 60% of the original cost..!!! i ask them to provide me the service manual but they wont...some policy they said..!!!

so i want to know what can be done , should i dump it or can something useful be made out of it..!!!

Any kind of help will be greatly appreciated

Thanks,
Talha

It is hard to determine much from the information that you gave. Check all of the fuses, see if the power supplies come up, and contact any Toshiba distributors in your area for a manual.
thank you for replying.....well i did mention that they are not providing me the manual....1 thing i noticed that when i open the tv the sound of power kicking in is heard then immediately a sound of tv going to stand-by follows but the red light is still on which shows there is power.....so could it be the power supply or mosfet ...i did change the fuse an year ago due to high voltage most of the electronics in my house were blown-off and i also checked the fuse , its oky..!!!!
Servicers will not provide you with a manual. Check the sources recommended in the stickies in the DIY areas and in the vendor listings. You can sometimes find them free online and sometimes for a fee. In your case you might need to find the chassis version and cross it to a model from another region.
hmmm yes good idea..!!! but can you answer my this question about the mosfet or flyback driver..??? thanks

No way to know without testing. What measurements or testing have you done? What supplies come up, and/ or shut down? Have you found and checked all of the fuses? Most sets have several.
oky a little history first.... the set was with my dad for 6 years ... and it wasnt cleaned for 5 years :yikes: so an year back due to high voltage the fuse was blown out so i changed it and the set was working fine then after exactly 7 months it started to flicker with black horizontal lines and returned to normal after a minute or so...but the problem got worse it would flicker and then go to standby .....and now it wont even open i can hear the caps and power supply charging up but they dont supply power to the guns and go to stand-by..!!!

for what testing i have done...

1.Checked all the caps on the hyper-board, they are all fine
2.give the power supply board to a tech nearby he said their is nothing wrong
3.Checked all the connections
4.Cleaned the set again.
5.i cant get to the inner side of the t.v because its pretty tricky to open up the front, seems as if i have to take everything out and then reach the three screws that are behind the wood case holding the front panal

and where can i find this chassis number....i searched every peace of code written on my set on the internet....nothing comes up..!!!
but i do know its a copy of the japanese set 43jh7uc...but the service manual of this set is in jap and with completely wrong diagrams..!!!

It may be that you won't find the service info that you would like. Most manyfacturers only release manuals and training materials to authorized servicers.

How did you check the caps?
How did a tech check the PS outside of the set? Most will not run independently.
Have you checked all of the fuses?
What power supply voltages come up when the set tries to power up and which go down? Do they come up to the levels they should? Do you get horizontal and vertical sweep?

All of these are very basic checks that an experienced tech would make. It is hard to provide much help without specific troubleshooting information.
Finally after a whole day of dedication i fixed the problem.....i am really greatful to you for your help....without it i wound not have done it.....

So here is how i fixed it if anyone is having the same problem:

i spent nearly 5 hours searching the internet for set closer to mine or 43" set and majority had a problem in the power supply board or a preventing IC something but the thing was that they gave a blinking red light in my case their was a steady red light which was good....now the second thing i noticed was that i could hear the high voltage kicking inn but the current wont flow to the guns neither i would hear any pop sound from the speaker .. as you see now it makes perfect sence that something is wrong in the convergence board ...and yes with the old light bulb methode i found out that a 25v cap was not charging properly .... and then i fixed the problem.!!! simple

somehow my set got the fisheye problem i fixed it with the thread methode it takes tooo long but its 90% fixed now some wavy lines here and there on the cross hatch which i cant fix ,please if their is a shorter way then let me know, also my memory card and VGA-input screen have totally lost ther geometry and convergence i am trying my best to fix them but its distorted too such an extent its really hard for me

lol...sorry for such a huge post..!!! i am excited and my english is not that good either.!!:D
