Twin SI HT18D2 w/nu3000dsp Advice required

I am building a woofer setup and originally had planned on going with 1x si ht18d2 at the beginning of this year. Fast forward to the completion of the theatre and about to start the woofer project, I have had a change of heart on the single woofer setup. I have the capacity to push 2 woofers with the already purchased iNuke nu3000dsp, so why not. Now onto the dilemma, from my research it was narrow sighted on my half to go with a d2 and perhaps should have gone with a d4 for it to pair better with the iNuke when 2 woofers are present. I am told if I get another d2 and put them in series the AMP will operate at 4ohm @ 900watt....

The way I see it is I have the following options...

1) Sell the current d2 and get 2 d4's
2) Simply get another d2 and live with the power loss
3) Buy a different amp to support 2 d2's wired up better than the inuke
4) Keep just the 1 d2 and 3000dsp and have the power

What are your thoughts?

I would have gotten a Inuke6000 for a pair of 18D2's. That would have been a 4ohm load on each channel. Are you trying to have 2ohm impedance per channel?

Just depends what your trying to achieve. If I owned an Inuke 3000 I would bridge the amp. That would be about 1800watts into a single 4ohms. So you could buy another amp such as the Inuke6000 and then use your 18's. This would be more than enough power.

Just trying to understand a little more about what your trying to achieve.

Well, my intent was to use a single setup and do as you said to simply bridge the amp. I was thinking prior to building the box if I wasn't going to be happy with the single setup I could do everything properly now with 2 sub's. Maybe it might be just best to build the one and bridge it to see how I like it, it is after all my first crack at this. I could always start an upgrade project later on down the road if it really is required.

There ya go. Simple sealed cabinet and bridged Inuke 3000 is a GREAT start. :T

The inuke 3000 puts out about 550 to 600 per channel at 4ohm. So a little larger than normal sealed box would work to use more of the driver at 4 ohm and then you could have two on the amp.

A bridged inuke 3000 on one si18 at 4 ohm is about 1850 to 2000 watts at 20hz. You will need to be careful to not push into hard clipping as they seem to max out around 1000 to 1200... it is nice to have headroom, but you will need to watch the volume as it is fun to push it and one may not be enough.

What is your room size and is it closed or open to more area?

Room size is 17Lx11W and roughly 8H

I bought a beefier amp for my speakers and for the SUB EQ so now I truly have dual sub outputs and should utilize them. I am going to go the route of dual SI 18 d4's and a iNuke 6000 now, should be future proof for me for 5 years.

Or do I keep the NU3000 and just go with a HST18 ?

With EQ applied the nu3000 will clip before a single SI 18 in a sealed box runs out of steam. At least it does in my setup. It's a great combo.

For two SI 18s I would highly recommend the nu6000dsp.

An inuke6000dsp with two si18d4s will work well and u could use a low shelf filter to boost the low end some. You will still have to watch the power some as the si18 should stay around a 1000 watts or so max. and a channel of the 6000 at 4 ohm will do 1850 watts at 4 ohm per channel at 20hz. You could push the driver beyond xmax also at a 4 sf. Box or larger easily.

I would go with 2 x 18 D2's, 2 x iNuke3k. You can bridge each into 4ohm, or just drive each vc with the 4 channels you have. Don't get the dsp models. Go with MiniDSP. I also just discovered, from reading another thread, that I'm able to delay the signal to one of my 2 subs and fix a huge dip in my response at 60Hz, at least at my seating position. This is a big deal to me. My response is incredibly smooth now and I can really hear it. My point is that I would retain the ability to drive multiple channels and subs. Also, especially if you go sealed, I think one 18 will leave you wanting for headroom. It will really start to sound stressed if you try to go over ~105dB below 30Hz. (Hint: LLT!) Check out the pair of towers I just finished. I still need to post the rest of my pictures.
