The Room: 13' x 26' x 8' w/popcorn ceiling, with only two standard door-size entryways (on one of the 26' walls) and a full masonry fireplace (centered on the opposite 26' wall). Display and mains are on one of the 13' walls. Main seating position is 17' back from display.

The Equipment: Receiver: JVC RX-DV31SL (http://support.jvc.com/consumer/prod...1&archive=true) The LFE xover set at 80hz. Center: Polk CS 100. R/L Mains: Polk Monitor - 6" 2way ported (matched to the cs 100). Surrounds: Atlantic Tech. dipoles.

Current Sub: dbx sw-15 powered by an Eosone RS 910 plate amp (fed by the receiver's LFE/sub out).

Budget: $500

I believe I have narrowed down my options to the following:

Option 1: CSS SD12 in a 76.3l box tuned to 23hz (single 4" port 20.5" long). Box would be made of oak plywood and given a furniture grade mission style finish (for optimal approval by the Supreme Allied Commander).

Option 2: Shiva-X in a 180l box tuned to 22hz (dual 4" ports). Box would be mounted in an attached storage room that is adjacent to the "Room" mentioned above. Face of the box (i.e. driver and ports) would be mounted between studs and fire into the Room. Sub would be located approx 3' behind the main seating on the right hand wall.

With either option, I'll be getting a 500w plate amp (PE 500w, PE 500w Bash or the O Audio 500w).

For me, it's a toss up. Option 1 would be more work (given the effort to finish the box in a professional manner) and probably a little bit more expensive (given the use of finish grade oak). Option 2 would likely be cheaper, but would involve wall cutting.

What do y'all think?

2x AE IB15 mounted in a manifold in storage room firing into listening room... Easier and better than ported, I'd guess...
The main reason is that this storage room isn't particularly well sealed from the elements (i.e. the exterior entry door is only a cheap, glass-pane storm door) and I don't know how well IB speakers would deal with wide variations in humidity/temperature. Maybe there are IB speakers that are up to the task... I just don't know enough.

The other reason is that I just don't know enough about IB setups in general. What are the advantages of an IB setup over ported? Any disadvantages?

If IB is better/cheaper/able to deal with the aforementioned environmental factors, I'd certainly be game for it.

Are the sub options going to be powered by the Eosone RS 910 plate amp?
Hardly... it barely has enough power to get out of its own way (Not to mention the fact that I think I blew it this weekend watching the Matrix Trilogy).

I'm going to get either the PE 500w, the PE 500w Bash or the O Audio 500w. I probably should have put that in the first post, eh?

Nice designs! I should mention that the SD12 models well in 120 liters tuned to 20 hz, 76.3 liters is a bit small.
120 liters will not work for the SAC (Supreme Allied Commander). The absolute largest box she can approve is 85l... and still, the smaller the better.

I'm still interested in the pros/cons of the wall/storeroom mounted option...
