I have. It's generally in the ball park. Normally room modes and other issues impact the data quite a bit in real world testing.

It's less accurate for very small boxes and for very big boxes, but I imagine that's expected.

 

Most of the builds I did were backed up with in room measurements. In room though isnt going to be that close to the model, and the model is before eq as well. To specifically test the accuracy of the model you would have to measure the roll off and max spl of the actual built subwoofer in an anechoic chamber or using Ilkka's ground plane measurement technique. I dont recall seeing anyone do that.

 

I've modeled a JBL 1514d on a 11cu.ft 19Hz box and 200w input power and it says i can do 105db @ 20Hz, will i be able to achieve that in real world?

105db @ 20hz, with 200w is definitely possible with a decent 15" subwoofer.

You'd only need a base line efficiency of 84db to pull it off with 200w. Most 15" drivers have a baseline around 87. If you're driver has enough excursion to handle 200w, then yes. it definitely should.

 

It's 96 db efficient.

105 at 20hz should be reasonable. It looks like they even have some pretty good graphs in the PDF too.

 

Take a look at the freq response graph that they offer, You'll notice its actually more like 78db sensitivity at the 20hz range, It's going to be tough, but factoring in room/cabin gain, it shouldnt be an issue. A Vented box will net you 3db more output in that range, so expect a baseline of 81db. This means that you'd technically need 256w to hit 105db, but only half that to hit 102, so you'd be between 102-105.

 

I totally misread the graphs in-car vs out-of car. I didn't see the strong roll-off out of car (free air).

I think that there are better sub woofers if you're trying to hit high levels at 20hz - FWIW.

 

Those graphs are for their recommended enclosure which is more likely for car audio purposes and tuned significantly higher that 20Hz:bigsmile:
